What is Trilogy?

  • Trilogy is the most powerful, precise and versatile non-invasive cancer treatment technology available, combining several radiotherapy techniques into one efficient tool.
  • For patients, Trilogy offers the hope of faster, more effective treatment and a reduction in radiation volume to minimize side effects and complications.
  • With Trilogy, diseased tissue is more successfully targeted, while surrounding healthy tissue is preserved.
The Trilogy System incorporates an on-board imaging and respiratory gating system that targets tumors precisely, synchronizing radiation with the patient’s breathing and “gating” radiotherapy to organs that move with respiration, reducing exposure to normal tissue. Its tightly focused beam delivers highly conformal doses, allowing higher doses of radiation. It is powerful, and can deliver radiotherapy doses at least 60 percent faster than conventional accelerators, reducing the effects of tumor motion. It also enhances patients’ comfort with shorter treatment times. In addition, the radiation beam is highly precise, allowing the doctor to deliver treatments with unprecedented accuracy.

Trilogy is capable of increasing the maximum dose delivery rate, which speeds the treatment time or reduces the number of treatments necessary. And most significantly, they system fine-tunes the focal point of delivery to allow for the most precise targeting of tumors or brain abnormalities yet developed. The system can target an area as small as 0.4 of a millimeter, approximately the size of a drawn pencil line.

Trilogy allows physicians to select from all forms of external-beam radiation therapy within one system. The doctor may choose the therapy most appropriate for treating body, head or neck cancers for each patient and deliver these treatments from one machine, all in the same health care location.

The system is also equipped with a device that creates a 3-D image of the tumor which allows physicians to study the treatment area with a scrutiny that was one only possible with invasive surgical examination. An On-Board Imager provides fast, real-time tracking of the tumor at the moment of treatment, while a robotic medical linear accelerator rotates the patient to deliver radiation from nearly every angle.
